Welcome Nadia Viken, 6th grade Special Education teacher! To help introduce Ms. Viken to our community, we asked her a few questions about herself.
Why did you become a teacher? I grew up in a large family with 6 siblings and always took on the role as teacher and caretaker to my younger siblings. Although I had a pull towards children, I followed in my dad’s footsteps and went to college for business. After working in the business world for about 5 years I decided that I could not ignore my passion for working with children and decided to return to school to obtain my teaching degree. Fast forward to now and I couldn’t be happier and more sure of my decision! I love working in a field where I am helping others on a daily basis and doing my best to make a difference.
Favorite subject in middle school: Math, especially Algebra
What was your favorite book you read in middle school? The View From the Cherry Tree and The Babysitter’s Club series
What’s on your “bucket list”? To travel to Europe and live near the beach/ocean
How do you like to spend your Saturdays? I like to spend time with my family at sporting events or going on a bike ride. I love exploring new activities and outdoor festivals with my kids.
If you could go back in time and give your middle school self some advice, what would it be? Don’t sweat the small stuff. Take risks and try new things now!
